Mickey Pillay (Procurement / Gauteng)

Mickey Pillay is one of only a few people who can say they have more than fifty years experience in the industry. His career started back in 1963 with Komatsu where his weekly wage was calculated in single figures. Mickey had numerous roles throughout his tenure at Komatsu which included Warehouse Manager, Freight & Logistics, Internal Sales, and Procurement.

After 17 years of service, he then joined U-Quip Spares which grew into one of the largest suppliers of earthmoving parts in Southern Africa. Mickey was an integral part of their success for almost 30 years. His career with them in the procurement department ended sadly when they had to close their doors in 2008.

Plying his trade at a time where computers and cell phones weren’t around, Mickey developed an incredible memory along with an unmatched resourcefulness. This has contributed towards his longevity in an industry where he hasn’t lost any of his youthful passion. At the tender age of 72 years, Uncle Mickey is really the walking example of the phrase “Age is just a number”.

“Age is not about how old you are, it’s about how many years you’ve lived”
